Rabbi Rachel Zerin makes the blessing over challah at the end of her installation as a rabbi at Temple Emanu-El on Nov. 6. Prof. Judith Hauptman, who was Zerin’s main Talmud teacher at the Jewish Theological Seminary, gave the address. The ceremony began with a grand procession of children from the religious school because, as Hauptman explained, the Talmud likens a rabbi’s ordination to a wedding that will bring forth the next generation.
