PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Louis Drucker, originally of Brooklyn, N.Y., passed away July 28, at home surrounded by family and close friends. Louis was beloved husband to his wife, Mildred; and a loving brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a man of great pride and routine, as well as great warmth and love. He is described by his family as a sweet, gentle and always curious soul, as well as a fierce intellectual.

Louis had a long career as an analytical chemist, with a focus on printing ink. He was known to give the newspaper a good hard smudge with his thumb and bring it to his nose for a sniff, before giving a rundown of that particular ink’s chemical make-up.

Louis instilled the value of a strong education in his daughter, and then his seven grandchildren. He studied his chemistry magazines up until the last weeks of his life. He and Mildred spent the early years of their retirement going on Elder Hostel trips throughout the world with wide-ranging educational focuses.

Louis was an avid bowler and golfer in his younger years, and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to hit on the driving range. His other passions included listening to classical music and opera, and attending concerts and lectures with Mildred in New York, and then later in Providence.

Louis was a proud veteran, having served as a radio operator in WWII. He would often use the word ARMY when playing word-spelling games with his young grandchildren.

He was father to the late Marjorie Thompson, and is survived by his wife, Mildred (Yellin) Drucker; his son-in-law, Ian Thompson; his sister Marylin Bennett, and brother, Rubin Drucker; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Donations in his memory may be made to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of R.I. or Temple Emanu-El.
