Fund seeks to support innovative programs for Jewish women and girls

The Women’s Alliance Endowment Fund (WAEF) of the Jewish Federation Foundation invites grant proposals for the upcoming fiscal year, July 2014 – June 2015. “We are particularly interested in programs that focus on women and girls,” said Deborah Skolnick Einhorn, co-chair of the WAEF. “Last year we were more proactive about connecting with the grant applicants to make sure the programs fit our core mission. We funded only  six programs in order to have more impact on fewer projects.”

The WAEF has approximately $5,900 available for grants this year. Since 1997, it has distributed nearly $64,000 in grants locally and in Israel to a wide array of programs and service providers.

Past programs that have been funded include a workshop for expectant mothers at the Shalom Family Parent Resource Center, Adult Day Services at the Jewish Seniors Agency and a Leadership Development Program for women at the Israel Association for Child Protection (ELI).

The 100 members of the WAEF are encouraged to participate in the annual allocation process. WAEF membership requires a minimum donation of $1,000, payable over three years. “We hope more women will join the WAEF this year or decide to renew their commitment so we can have an even greater impact,” said Barbara Feldstein, co-chair of the WAEF. “Every year as the fund grows, we are able to allocate more funds.”

The WAEF request for proposals will be sent to area synagogues, agencies and organizations; grant requests must be received by Friday, March 14. Grant recipients will be notified in May 2014.
