PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Jewel Rost Paley passed away peacefully on March 13, three weeks shy of her 96th birthday. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Lawrence Paley, in 1991. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law Joan and Jimmy Abramson, Linda and Fred Franklin, and Sandy and Bob Lichtenstein, and her beloved grandchildren Wendy (Bob) Charland, Nancy Abramson, Susan Abramson, Brian (Regan) Franklin, Alison Franklin, David Lichtenstein (Rebecca Silver) and Katy Lichtenstein. She was a special GG to Avigail and Daniel Yerushalmi, Zalman Wuensch, Jack and Ryan Charland, Sammi Franklin, and Jesse and Gillian Lichtenstein.

She was born in Montreal, Canada in 1918. She graduated from Cornell University at the age of twenty in 1938, and then spent most of her married life in Providence. After her husband retired in the early seventies, they moved to Florida. Jewel returned to Providence in 2007 to become a resident of Laurelmead. She never stopped learning and kept up with current events, politics, and international affairs, reading the New York Times daily. She was an enthusiastic sports fan, following and rooting for the Red Sox and Celtics. She played tennis and golf into her 80s, loved the theatre and symphony, and was an avid bridge player all of her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Temple Beth El, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, or the Laurelmead Employee Education Fund.
