As the licensed electrologist behind Elite Esthetics, Roseanne Mississian really loves her job. And, she admits, it’s not necessarily a job for everyone.  But her loyal clientele are probably glad that she didn’t follow her initial dream to become an interior designer. Instead, at her mother’s suggestion, she applied to work with a teaching electrologist who was licensed by the health department.

“I was married and had just had my first daughter. I was looking to go back to school.” Her mother knew about electrolysis and thought the training made sense.

And the rest is history.

She’s been in the business for more than 30 years, 20 of them at the Calart Tower on the Providence/Cranston line.

Electrolysis removes unwanted hair from the body. It’s a permanent procedure, and practitioners are licensed by the state after intense one-on-one training with a teacher and practical work experience.

You might think hair removal is simply cosmetic. But for some, it’s life changing. People who are embarrassed and ashamed at the way they look get a new lease on life. “There is a tremendous satisfaction in helping people,” she says. “I could tell endless stories. People who wore scarves in July … they now stand tall.”

Mississian also offers laser hair removal, a cost-effective procedure in some cases. Laser treatment is not permanent, and the laser only sees dark hair as it deals with melanin. “It’s all a very individual process,” she says. “In electrolysis, it’s a human process so the electrologist sees everything.” But the laser is faster, and for some people, that’s a plus. Also, the reduction of 70 to 90 percent is enough for some, she says.

“Electrolysis is the only medically proven and FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal,” Mississian says. “We use the latest computerized state-of-the-art electrolysis equipment for the most comfortable and effective permanent hair removal.

“I treat my clients the way I want to be treated,” she says.

Treatment in the office is private and confidential. A free office consultation, pre-treatment, is included.
