Dr. Nathan Starr

ALL RIVER, Mass. – Dr. Nathan Starr died June 17. He was the husband of the late Ida E. (Bloom) Starr. Born in Boston; he was a son of the late Henry Starr and the late Annie (Lieder) Starr and had been a resident of Fall River since 1937.

A graduate of the Massachusetts School of Optometry, he practiced optometry in Fall River for over 50 years, retiring in 1987. In 1978 he founded Starr Opticians, now operated by his son Howard Starr. He previously owned and operated the former Starr Jewelers, on S. Main St, Fall River.

He was a member of the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists, Fall River Country Club, Temple Beth-El of Fall River, Fall River Jewish Home for the Aged and Fall River Jewish War Veterans. He was also a WWII veteran.

He is survived by a daughter; Betty Ann Starr of Hartford, Conn., two sons; Robert Starr of Wrentham, Mass., and Howard Starr and his wife Barbara of Fall River, two granddaughters; Rebecca Starr Palana and husband Kevin, and Laura A. Regan and husband Michael, two great-grandsons; Thomas and James Regan, a sister; Edith Lubin of Great Neck, N.Y., and a brother; Bernard Starr of Md. He was a brother of the late Samuel Starr of Winthrop, Mass.
