Advocating for refugee families

Posted

Members of the Rhode Island interfaith community gathered June 22 near the Rhode Island Holocaust Memorial in Providence to call on the government to keep families together and remind others of our refugee roots.

The news conference was also an opportunity to announce a fundraising drive to benefit HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society), an organization with a long history of helping those who come to the United States looking for a new home. A call also went out for volunteers to help the First Unitarian Church, a sanctuary church in Providence.

The event was sponsored by the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island, the Board of Rabbis of Greater Rhode Island and members of the interfaith community.
